A Hymn for the End of Our Hoarded Resources

Aug 26, 2025

On Wednesday nights, after we take time to pray together, our church family looks closer at a chapter in Hope: Living Confidently in God (affiliate link) Last week, our attention was drawn to an acronym to remember as a guide for praying for when you are in a trial.

Praise God for His love, knowledge, and power.

Confess your lack of adequate resources.

Ask for courage to hope in HIm.

Express your desire to please Him.

PCAE. Or PACE if that's easier for you to remember.

The "C" rang the little hymn bell in my head: confess your lack of adequate resources. My mind began to sing:

When we have exhausted our store of endurance, when our strength has failed ere the day is half done, when we reach the end of our hoarded resources, our Father's full giving is only begun.

Talk about identifying with a hymn! How often my attitude has been a "hoarding" one. Grasping at all I can to help me in a hard time as if it was all up to me. Not only does my independence rear its head, but I actually think that's a good thing.

Annie Johnson Flint's hymn reminds us that the good thing is to rely on God's measureless grace. Read her reminder here:

He Giveth More Grace

by Annie Johnson Flint, 1866-1932

He giveth more grace when the burdens grow greater;
He sendeth more strength when the labors increase.
To added affliction He addeth His mercy;
to multiplied trials, His multiplied peace.

Refrain:

His love has no limit; His grace has no measure.
His pow'r has no boundary known unto men.
For out of His infinite riches in Jesus,
He giveth, and giveth, and giveth again!

When we have exhausted our store of endurance,
when our strength has failed ere the day is half done,
when we reach the end of our hoarded resources,
our Father’s full giving is only begun.
