HYMN OF THE MONTH:
We Praise You, O God, Our Redeemer, Creator
by Julia Cory, 1882-1963
Julia Bulkley Cady was born in New York City in 1882.
Her father was a renowned architect who helped design the American Museum of Natural History and the original Metropolitan Opera House! But he also loved hymns and faithfully taught God's Word.
Inspired by her father's example, Julia began writing hymns of her own when she was just eight years old.
In 1902, when Julia was only nineteen, going on twenty, a church organist asked her to write new Thanksgiving words for the familiar melody of “We Gather Together.” Her hymn, “We Praise Thee, O God, Our Redeemer, Creator,” was sung in two New York City churches that Thanksgiving.
Nine years later, Julia married Robert Haskell Cory and became known as Julia Cady Cory. She went on to raise three sons and eventually became a grandmother to fifteen grandchildren! The hymn she wrote as a young woman continued to be sung by generations of Christians.
But Julia's hymn reminds us that thanksgiving is about much more than counting our blessings. It's about remembering who God is and trusting Him through every season of life.
“Through life's storm and tempest our Guide You have been.
When perils o'ertake us, You will not forsake us.”
Whether life is filled with blessings or difficulties, we can always give thanks because our Creator, Redeemer, and faithful Guide will never forsake His children.

We Praise You, O God, Our Redeemer, Creator
By Julia Cory, 1882-1963
We praise You, O God, our Redeemer, Creator,
In grateful devotion our tribute we bring.
We lay it before You, we kneel and adore You,
We bless Your holy name, glad praises we sing.
Isa. 431; Ps. 100:3-4; Ps. 95:6; Rev. 4:11; Heb. 13:15; Ps. 103:1-4
We worship You, God of our fathers, we bless You;
Through life's storm and tempest our Guide You have been.
When perils o'ertake us, You will not forsake us,
And with Your help, O Lord, our battles we win.

With voices united our praises we offer,
And gladly our songs of thanksgiving we raise.
