HYMN OF THE MONTH:
When We All Get to Heaven
by Eliza Hewitt, 1898
Our theme for 2025 is "We Believe" and we're exploring core biblical doctrines we can pass to the next generation using hymns as a teaching tool. This month we're looking at the doctrine of last things (eschatology). We realize there are different viewpoints from Bible-believing Christians but we all agree on one thing: God has promised eternity in Heaven with Christ for those who believe in Him!
Eliza Edmunds Hewitt (1851–1920) grew up in Philadelphia and loved both learning and teaching.
After graduating from school, she became a teacher herself, but her career ended suddenly when a student struck her with a heavy slate, leaving her with a serious spinal injury.
For much of her life she faced long seasons of pain and confinement at home.
Rather than give in to discouragement, Eliza turned to writing poetry and hymns for Sunday school children. Her words of faith and hope were soon set to music, and she went on to write thousands of hymns. Some of her best-known are Sunshine in My Soul, More About Jesus, and When We All Get to Heaven.
Though her health was fragile, her hymns overflow with joy, reminding believers to look beyond life’s trials to the certain hope of seeing Jesus face to face. For Eliza, the promise of heaven was not only something to sing about—it was her daily strength and comfort.

When We All Get to Jesus
by Eliza Hewitt, 1898
Sing the wondrous love of Jesus,
Sing His mercy and His grace;
In the mansions bright and blessed
He'll prepare for us a place.
John 14:2-3; 1 Peter 1:3-4; Titus 3:5; Psalm 89:1
Refrain:
When we all get to heaven,
What a day of rejoicing that will be!
When we all see Jesus,
We'll sing and shout the victory!
Revelation 22:4; 1 Corinthians 15:54-55; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; Isaiah 25:9
While we walk the pilgrim pathway
Clouds will overspread the sky;
But when trav'ling days are over
Not a shadow, not a sigh.
Hebrews 11:3; Psalm 23:4; Revelation 21:4; John 16:33
Let us then be true and faithful,
Trusting, serving ev'ry day;
Just one glimpse of Him in glory
Will the toils of life repay.
1 Corinthians 15:58; Galatians 6:9; Romans 8:18; 2 Corinthians 4:17
Onward to the prize before us!
Soon His beauty we'll behold;
Soon the pearly gates will open–
We shall tread the streets of gold.
Philippians 3:14; Hebrews 12:2; 1 John 3:2; Revelation 21:21
